freereina!
About
freereina! is a catharsis-core project from Singapore. Their dense, explosive noisepop interrogates escapist narratives with a colourful DNA: maximalist digital shoegaze surging via Shimokitazawa-esque live-house terrain; emo momentum powering glass-like synths blaring equally alongside speedy guitars; forensic wordplay — permissions, odds, procedure — folded into an indie-pop sweetness curdling as it climbs. A sugary voice sits at the centre, refusing to recede: at times sincere and innocent in the school of soutaiseiriron and passepied, at others carrying its toplines out front with the confidence to scream. Born from a new age of digital melancholia, their walls of sound take catharsis as architecture, resonating with a deep, piercing blue.
Debuting at the start of 2025, freereina! have quickly buzzed across Singapore’s indie rock and shoegaze underground as an irresistibly emerging secret, winning over cult audiences with their intense, euphoric shows. Bridging noisepop aesthetics with agile songcraft, the band’s distinct sound — bright hooks and vibrant textures with a distinctively sweet voice gliding/roaring above — presents a cosmopolitan sensibility fit equally for zoomer overload or rateyourmusic overlords. The band is gearing up to finally put out their debut EP, concession aquarium, in late 2026 — part of a wider three part cycle.
