glasse
About
glasse is a multi-genre artist whose interwoven soundscapes of post-rock, ambient, and orchestral music are rooted in reflections on existentialism, the ensuing pursuit of joy as an act of resistance, and the visceral nature of performance.
Inspired by their experiences with narrative-driven worldbuilding, they are compelled to explore a variety of mediums in presenting their art, with a prominent focus on audiovisual cohesion.
On “home,” glasse sifts through the remnants of the past and our current historical conjuncture of capitalist-imperialism with its inherent violence and displacement. From the Nakba to the ICE raids, the term “home” bears the weight of grief. Yet, through this contradiction of loss, there is also the seed of resilience: repairing, nurturing, and situating oneself amongst the interconnectivity of the international struggle.
Through these sentiments, glasse portrays “home” as a work where they are never alone; fragments of vocal samples recorded alongside friends within the naturally reverberated alcove of Wild Horse Window serve as the binding motif of every song, their collective memory weaving intimately throughout and situating the album not only as the immediate, present form of an artistic expression, but also as a commitment to the will and perseverance flowing through life itself.
Much like those moments of rupture and political trauma that must be confronted and preserved in order to honor and redeem those lost, so too must the moments of joy, determination, and revolutionary optimism be forever embedded into the collective memory.
“home is nowhere special; it’s just where you are”
